King of Columbus go-karts concludes tonight

Columbus Speedway Go-Kart Racing, which holds events at the Tony Stewart Speedway located on the grounds of the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds, held Night 1 of the King of Columbus on May 20.

The division winners were Blake Robertson (junior 3), Lane Miller (clone heavy), Connor Perry (rookie), Oliver Osbun (junior 2 and junior champ), Richard Frazee (adult pred), Macy Staton (junior 1), Chris Buchanan (clone medium), Jared John (clone super heavy) and Tony Stewart (rwyb).

Tonight will be the conclusion of the 2022 King of Columbus that was postponed from May 21 due to weather. The drivers meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. with racing to follow.

Jennings County go-kart results

The Jennings County Kart Track, which holds events at the Jennings County 4-H Fairgrounds in North Vernon, raced May 13.

Division winners were Travis Wilburn (clone 420), Chris Lange (adult pred), Jake Hudak (junior 1), Ricky Bernard (junior 3 and pro purple),

Jacob Chadd (junior 2), Macy Staton (junior champ), Sawyer Bohall, (youth champ), Colby King (clone 340), Leroy Blevins (small block open), Daniel Burton (flatheads), Robert Doyle (senior champ), Kamden Fields (rookies) and Chris Buchanan (clone 380).

The next go-kart event will be June 10.

Peeden wins at Bloomington

Steve Peeden won the Indiana Pro Late Model Series feature May 20 at Bloomington Speedway, barely edging Josh Boller for the victory.

Chad Stapleton was third with Tyler Neal and Zack Burton completing the top five. The remainder of the top-10 finishers were Josh Dietz, Alan Magner, Daniel Hopper, Caleb Schryer and Zac Gibbs.

Brent Beauchamp won the 410-sprint car feature over Geoff Ensign, Davey Ray, Harley Burns and Todd Hobson. Keaton Streeval won the bomber feature over Josh Litton, David Bumgardner, Josh Turner and Andrew Pollock.

The next scheduled event at Bloomington Speedway is the USAC Indiana Midget Week event Friday.

Brownstown racing tonight

Brownstown Speedway will host the Bobby Wilson Memorial tonight.

On the docket will be super late models, modifieds, super stocks, hornets and crown vics. Also, there will be the features for the super stocks and hornets that were postponed from May 14. The events scheduled for May 21 were rained out. For information, visit brownstownspeedway.com.

Rock Crest racing Sunday

Rock Crest Raceway, formerly known as Twin Cities Raceway Park, in Vernon will run the Ted and Sue Collins Memorial Race on Sunday night.

Competing will be crate late models, super stocks, pure stocks and hornets.

The W.E. Burton Memorial Race scheduled for May 20 was rained out and rescheduled for July 15.

Eldora running Sunday

Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, will host its final tuneup before next month’s Eldora Million and Dirt Late Model Dream with the annual running of the Johnny Appleseed Classic on Sunday night.

The late model main event will pay $5,000 to win. Also competing will be the modifieds and stock cars. For information, visit eldoraspeedway.com.

Lawrenceburg racing Monday

Lawrenceburg Speedway will hold a special event Monday evening. The World of Outlaw Sprint Cars will be in town, along with the modifieds.

Rayburn memorial race Monday

Circle City Raceway in Indianapolis will be holding the C.J. Rayburn Stronger than Dirt Memorial Race on Monday evening. The super late models will be completing for a first-place prize of $10,000. Also competing will be crate late models and modifieds. Hot laps are scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

Circle City Raceway is located at the Marion County 4-H Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.

This week in racing history

From 70 years ago in 1952 at 25th Street Fairgrounds Speedway in Columbus, Gilbert Richards won the feature race over Gene Minor, Lee Roberts, Harry King and Walter Tarter.

From 60 years ago in 1962 at Mitchell Speedrome in Mitchell, Cecil Beavers won the modified feature over Calvin Gilstrap and Orville Yeadon. Mack Pace won the jalopy car feature over Kenny Baker and Herb Shear.

From Memorial Day weekend in 1972 at Brownstown on Saturday night, Jim Curry won the late model feature over Jack Owens, Dick Brinegar, Chris Bradley and Mel Vails. On Monday night, Curry won over Owens, Bradley, Ira Bastin and Russ Petro. On Sunday night 50 years ago, Curry won the late model feature at Haubstadt over Owens, Tom Helfrich and Bradley. Dick Gaines won the sprint car feature over Butch Wilkerson, Cliff Cockrum and Sheldon Kinser.

Also from Memorial Day weekend 50 years ago, Twin Cities hosted a Saturday and Monday night racing program. Tommy Day won both features during the holiday weekend. On Saturday, he won over Leo Boner, Phil Fultz, Bob Myers and Danny Eichler. On Monday, he took the victory over Fultz, Hillbilly Ogle and Gary Herbert.

Also from 1972, the Columbus Go-Kart Club winners were Brian Everroad, Timmy Blythe, Joe Hoban, Paul Boaz, Bob McClure and Frank Hoban.

From 50 years ago at Whitewater Valley Speedway in Liberty, Floyd Gilbert won the late model feature over Pat Patrick, Vern LeFevers, Baldy McLaren and Bob Hubble. Bob Smith took the super-six feature over Paul Montique, Gene Huston, Gary Herbert and George Morgan.

From 50 years ago at Bloomington, Dick Gaines won the 75-lap sprint car feature over Sheldon Kinser, Bobby Black, Mike Johnson and Johnny Coogan.

From 40 years ago in 1982 at Charlestown Motor Speedway, Roger Absher won the late model feature over Bob Pierce, Doug Ault, Russ Petro and Tom Helfrich. Danny Blackwell won the street stock feature over Mark Elzey, Willie Sallee, Mike Whitney and Bob Jackson.

Also from 1982 at Haubstadt, Steve Kinser won the sprint car feature over Chuck Amati. Kevin Claycomb won the late model feature.

From 1982 at Lawrenceburg, Fred Linder won the All-Star Circuit of Champions sprint car feature over Randy Kinser, Jack Hewitt, Kenny Jacobs and Lee Osborne.

From 1992 at Paragon, Randy Kinser won the sprint car feature over Gary Trammell, Bob Kinser, Rick Ungar and Joe Miller. Dave Peeden won the pro stock feature over Don Parsons, Lee Hobbs, Steve Peeden and Dave Weddle. Tony Arthur won the pure stock feature over Lindsay Wade, Dale Hobbs, Jarmy Wilson and Ron Lucas.

Also from 1992 at Union County Speedway in Liberty, Marty O’Neal won the late model feature over Steve Barnett. Greg Roberts won the street stock feature and Danny Eichler took the bomber main event.

Also from 30 years ago, Billy Moyer won the Bloomington Klash for late models at Bloomington Speedway over Lee Fleetwood. Gary Trammell won the sprint car feature over Brad Fox. Scott Patman won the pro stock feature, and Ray Godsey Jr. took the pure stock main event.

From 20 years ago in 2002 at Haubstadt, Eric Shively won the sprint car feature over Wil Newlin and Kevin Thomas. Kevin Claycomb won the late model feature over Rodney Melvin and Bobby Melvin.
