Dorothy Lee Henderson, 88 of Crothersville, Indiana passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Autumn Trace in Seymour with her daughter and sister at her side. She was born June 10, 1933 in Crothersville to Wallace Lee and Dorothy Mae Perry Monroe. She married Robert Russell Henderson, Jr. on June 17, 1978 at the Crothersville Presbyterian Church and he preceded her in death on November 26, 2015.

Dorothy worked as an LPN and was a former member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church before becoming a member at First Baptist Church of Crothersville. She taught numerous Sunday School classes and helped direct vacation bible school at Mount Olive. She brought her faithful companion Storman Norman with her to church every time she went. Norman would add his “Amen” at times to the sermon. She loved to make plastic canvas calendars and gave them to everyone who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Henderson, her parents, Wallace and Dorothy Monroe, her son, James Robert Thompson, Jr., daughter, still born at birth, Cynthia Thompson and her sister, Teresa McFall. Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter, Joyce (Steve) Scallorn of Columbus, her sister, Marcia (Rick) Cox of Crothersville, her stepchildren, Robert Russell Henderson III of Scipio, Indiana, Sandra (George) Crane of Columbus, Brian Henderson of Columbus, her grandchildren, Cande Porter, Ricky Porter, Jr. and Erik Scallorn, her great-grandchildren, Jacob Kiel, Alex Kiel, Lily Doty and Rowynn Porter and her nieces, Shauna Cox and Cherish Cox as well as nephews, Duane Cox, Richard Cox, Brett Cox, Jeremiah Cox and Joseiah Cox.

Friends may visit with Dorothy’s family from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2022 at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour, Indiana. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Mathews officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
