Baseball

Tigers win first game

The Crothersville baseball team got its first win of the season on Thursday night at home against Rock Creek Academy.

The Tigers put up six runs in the bottom of the first, three in the second, three in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Caden Lewis and Lucas Hilton each had two hits on the day, and Devin Morgan, Matthew Clouse and Logen O’Sullivan all had one hit.

Hilton, Morgan and Blake Robinson all had one RBI, and O’Sullivan had two RBI.

Hilton pitched 2.1 innings and had three strikeouts, and Morgan pitched 2.2 innings and had four strikeouts.

The Tigers will be back home on Saturday for a doubleheader against Cannelton.

Trinity takes down Greenwood Christian

The Trinity baseball team had a 7-1 win against Greenwood Christian on Thursday.

Nathan Voelker had two hits to lead the team while Levi Pottschmidt, Sage Broughton, Peyton Pollert and Evan Hunt all had one hit. Broughton and Pollert each had two RBI while Pottschmidt and Hunt each had 1 RBI.

Voelker pitched all seven innings, allowing just three hits and striking out 10 batters.

The Cougars will be at New Washington on Saturday for a doubleheader.

Braves walk it off against Charlestown

The Brownstown baseball team had a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Charlestown 3-2 at home on Thursday night.

Grant Killey had two hits while Ethan Garland, Jake Pauley, Levi Stahl and Trent Lowery all had one hit. Lowery also had an RBI for the Braves.

Ethan Davis pitched 5.1 innings and struck out six batters and Lowery pitched the final 1.2 innings and struck out one.

The Braves are now 13-8 this season will host Borden for a doubleheader on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Tennis

Cougars beat New Washington

The Trinity tennis team had an exciting 3-2 win on the road at New Washington on Thursday.

The Cougars’ points came from Sarah Lemming winning 6-0, 6-0 at one singles, Drew Hubbard won 6-2, 6-1 at two singles and Gabby Bleier

won 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 at three singles.

Kiley Zabel and Carson Bowling lost 0-6, 7-6 (7-3), 4-6 at one doubles, and Ella Christopher and Natalee Martinez lost 3-6, 1-6 at two doubles.

Trinity’s final regular season match will be on Monday at Southwestern Shelby.

Brownstown beats North Harrison

The Brownstown Central tennis team went on the road on Wednesday and came home with a 3-2 win over North Harrison.

Avery Harrison won 6-4, 6-3 at three singles, Hannah Hackman and Chelsea Luedeman won 6-1, 6-3 at one doubles and Bella Brown and Kaitlyn Williams won 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 at two doubles to get the Braves the win.

Brynn Burton lost in three sets at one singles, and Leah Pottschmidt lost at two singles.

Brownstown’s final regular season match will be on Monday at Edinburgh.

Track and field

Braves placed third at MSC

The Brownstown boys track and field team placed third place overall in the Mid-Southern Conference meet on Thursday at Corydon Central High School.

The Braves had 87 team points, placing behind Charlestown (96) and Salem (92).

Full results from the Braves’ MSC meet will be featured in Saturday’s Tribune.

Tigers place at SAC

The Crothersville girls team finished second overall in the Southern Athletic Conference meet on Thursday with a team score of 102, falling just short of Borden, which won with a team score of 114.

The boys placed fifth overall for Crothersville with two points.

Full results from the Tigers’ SAC meet will be featured in Saturday’s Tribune.
