Brownstown Speedway finally opens for 2022 season

The third time was the charm for Brownstown Speedway when the track was finally to open its 70th year of racing on April 2.

The feature winners were Greg Amick of Spraytown (super stocks), Steve Peeden of Paragon (pro late models), Bailey Jones of Lexington (pure stocks), Chris Hillman Jr. of Camby (hornets) and Michael Cranmer of Jeffersonville (crown vics).

Amick edged out Zach Sasser at the finish line to score the super stock feature victory in the Craig Cooper-owned car. Sasser from Bedford was a close second, with Josh Litton of Paragon, Brad Cummingsof Bedford and Austin Perry of North Vernon rounding out the top five drivers. The heat race winners for the super stocks were Tucker Chastain and Matt Boknecht.

Peeden took the lead in the closing laps of the pro late model feature to score the win in the opener for the Indiana Late Model Series. Raymond Humphrey of Bloomington was second, with Kentucky’s Dustin Linville, Zack Burton of Edinburgh and Alan Magner of North Vernon completing the top five.

Humphrey, Peeden, and Magner all won heat race heat races. Randy Charles took the B-main.

Jones won out in another side-by-side battle with Keaton Streeval to win the pure stock feature race. D.J. Dunn of French Lick posted the runner-up finish, with Tommy Fleenor of Salem, Josh Hayes of Seymour and Eric Lewis of Corydon the rest of the top five finishers. Fleenor and Streeval won the heat races.

Hillman led all the way to capture the first hornet division feature of the season. Hunter Perry of Columbus was second, followed by Davey Waggoner of North Vernon, Michael Brewer of Seymour and

Curtis Roccia of Columbus. Heat race winners for the hornet division were Brian Pollitt, Hillman and Waggoner, Matt Miller took the B-main.

Michael Cranmer took the lead in lapped traffic toward the end of the race from Blake Daniels, who finished second. The rest of the top five finishers were Joel Smith, Brandon Cranmer and Billy Heil. Heat races went to Daniels and Michael Cranmer.

Lawrenceburg opener reset

Lawrenceburg Speedway had hoped to kick off its 2022 racing season last week, but the USAC National Sprint Car Series event was canceled. Tonight’s racing, which was to feature sprints, modifieds, pure stocks and hornets has been canceled due to today’s weather conditions. The next scheduled event is for April 16. Paragon canceled for tonight

Paragon Speedway has canceled tonight’s racing activities. The next scheduled races will be Friday with 410 sprints, modifieds, bombers and hornets.

Columbus Speedway Go-Karts cancel today

The Columbus Speedway Go-Kart Racing, which conducts events at Tony Stewart Speedway located at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds, has cancelled today’s race program due to the weather conditions. The next scheduled event is on April 29.

Jennings Karts delayed again

The Jennings County Kart Track, which holds events at the Jennings County 4-H Fairgrounds in North Vernon, has moved its opening night to April 15 due to maintenance and weather issues.

Eldora opener set for Tuesday

Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, will open its 2022 racing season on Tuesday with the Castrol FLO Racing Night in America event for late models. From 30 years ago in 1992 at Brownstown, Mike Jewell won the late model feature over Bob Pohlman Jr., Lee Fleetwood, Don O’Neal and Kevin Roderick. Randy Petro took the street stock main event over Scott Patman, Joe Lucas, Delbert Ross and Cale Kern. Ray Hughes won the bomber feature over Jay Deckard, George Berry, Kevin Sebastian and Bruce Turner.
