Trinity beats Orleans

The Trinity softball team continues its hot start to the season as the Cougars defeated Orleans 5-4 at home on Monday to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Trinity scored two runs in the first inning, two more in the third and one in the fourth and held a 5-2 lead heading into the seventh. Orleans tried to make a comeback but fell one run short.

Grace Lance pitched all seven innings for the Cougars, allowing just three hits while striking out an impressive 12 batters.

Lance also homered for the Cougars, which was a two-run shot.

Bailey Tabeling led the team with two hits, while Lance, Madison Keith, Olivia Cain and Dianna Munoz all had one hit.

Lance and Munoz both had two RBI for the Cougars.

Trinity will look to keep it rolling when the Cougars play at Providence tonight at 5:30 p.m.

Seymour tops Madison

The Seymour softball team won its second game in a row as the Owls came away with an 11-9 home victory over Madison on Monday night.

After two tough losses to begin the year, the Owls are back to .500 now at 2-2.

Next up for Seymour will be a road game at Henryville tonight at 5:30 p.m.

Brownstown suffers first loss

The Brownstown softball team suffered its first loss of the season on Monday night as the Braves lost 6-1 to Bedford North Lawrence at home.

Emily Singleton and Kyndle Huddleston both got hits for the Braves, and Kelsey Schneider pitched all seven innings.

BNL scored five runs in the first three innings before the Braves got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. The Stars added one insurance run in the top of the sixth.

The Braves, now 4-1 this season, will be back at home tonight as they take on Columbus East at 5:30 p.m.

Tennis

Trinity falls to Austin

The Trinity tennis team kicked off its season on Monday night with a tight 3-2 loss to Austin on the road.

The two wins for the Cougars came at one singles where Sarah Lemming beat Maya Furnish 6-3, 6-1 and the one doubles team of Kiley Zabel and Ella Christopher defeated Ashley Rice and Evelyn Ousley 7-5, 5-7, 7-4.

Drew Hubbard suffered a 6-3, 6-6 (7-4) loss at two singles, and Gabby Bleier had a 6-2, 6-2 loss at three singles.

The two doubles team of Natalee Martinez and Carson Bowling dropped a 6-0, 6-2 match to Jeralyn Goodin and Emma Smith.

Trinity will look to bounce back later tonight when the Cougars play at Southwestern (Hanover) at 5 p.m.
