In an effort to allow stakeholders the opportunity to make advance planning for vacations and other activities, Brownstown Central Community School Corp. officials have released the 2023-24 school calendar.

Superintendent Tim Taylor said he worked with the Brownstown Central Classroom Teachers Association to develop the calendar. When presented to the board of school trustees during the March 8 meeting, the calendar was approved.

This comes a month after the board approved the 2022-23 calendar.

For the 2023-24 school year, the first day of school for teachers will be Aug. 3, and students will start Aug. 4.

School will not be in session Sept. 4 for Labor Day, Oct. 9 through 13 for fall break, Nov. 22 through 24 for Thanksgiving break and Dec. 21 through Jan. 3 for Christmas break. Teachers will return from Christmas break Jan. 4, and students will go back Jan. 5.

There will be no school Jan. 15 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day) and April 5 (prom), but those could be used for makeup days if needed. Other makeup days are set for Feb. 12, April 12 and May 3.

School also won’t be in session March 25 through 29 for spring break.

There also are early dismissal days built into the calendar: Aug. 25, Sept. 22, Nov. 10, March 8, April 26 and May 10.

Besides Aug. 4 and Jan. 4, there will be a teacher day Feb. 19.

The last day of school for students is set for May 24. Commencement for the Class of 2024 will be May 25.

Both school calendars can be downloaded online at btownccs.k12.in.us/essentials/yearly-school-calendar.
