Crothersville-Vernon Township presents awards to personnel

The Crothersville-Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department conducted its yearly celebration for 2021 on Saturday.

Attendees included firefighters and members from different functions of the community and their families.

Chief Ben Spencer welcomed everyone, while Firefighter Donald Crater gave the EMT prayer, Firefighter Mikey Blair recited the fireman’s prayer and Firefighter Jason Howard gave the blessing for the meal.

Also, Deputy Chief Logan Isenhower gave an update on the current run totals for the department and said they are on track for an unprecedented year-end total. As of Saturday, there have been 270 medical calls, 79 car wrecks, 20 structure fires, nine hazmat spills, eight water rescues, 12 wildland fires, 15 vehicle fires, 21 fire alarms, 28 service calls and seven mutual aid responses for fires for a total of 469 runs.

Treasurer Charlie Densford presented gifts to all of the fire department members, and Capt. Jason Hillenburg presented awards for 2020 and 2021.

Crater was presented with EMT of the Year for 2020, Lt. Chris Seal was presented with Firefighter of the Year for 2020 and Blair was presented with Firefighter of the Year for 2021.

In his closing remarks, Spencer thanked the firefighters and their families for everything they sacrifice.
