The Seymour wrestling team competed in the Scottsburg Tournament last Friday and Saturday, and the Owls racked up some good wins.

They went 7-2 overall and placed third place in the tournament.

Seymour’s wins came against New Washington 63-6, Clarksville 64-6, Scottsburg 54-18, Southwestern 54-30, Silver Creek 54-30, Switzerland County 42-18 and Paoli 42-30.

The two losses came to Madison 51-27 (gave up 30 in forfeits) and Salem 34-30.

Some undefeated wrestlers for the Owls throughout the tournament were Dane Botkin, Ricky Bogard and Sam Castetter.

The Owls will be back in action this upcoming Saturday when they compete on the Roncalli Duals at Roncalli High School, starting at 9 a.m.

Girls basketball

Braves earn win

The Brownstown Central girls basketball team hosted Eastern (Pekin) on Saturday night, and the Braves walked away with a 61-47 Mid-Southern Conference victory.

The Braves will be at Salem tomorrow night for another MSC game with varsity starting at approximately 7:30 p.m. and JV before that at 6 p.m.

Cougars sustain loss

The Trinity Lutheran girls basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday night as the Cougars hosted Scottsburg, who came away with a 49-43 win.

Trinity was led in scoring by Bailey Tabeling, who had 26 points. Kailene Cockerham added 8 points, Liza Froedge had 7 and Madison Keith had 2.

The fourth quarter was the big difference in the game as the Warriors outscored the Cougars 23-12.

Trinity, now 6-1 on the season, will look to bounce back tomorrow night at South Ripley at 7:30 p.m.
