Shirley Hutchinson, age 83, of Brownstown, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Hutchinson attended Ratcliff Grove Christian Church.

She was a self-employed hairdresser. She was also a telephone operator in Elkhart, and she worked at Weyerhauser in Seymour and the Plastic Factory for several years.

Shirley loved spending time with her family and visiting Gatlinburg, and she loved her dog, Spike. She was a loving and caring person and was known for her sassy sense of humor and her great cooking. She also enjoyed watching I.U. basketball, playing Yahtzee with her husband, Charlie, and camping. A special thanks is given to her friend and caregiver, Geraldine Shocke Lyles.

Born on January 13, 1938, she was the daughter of William Keithley and Geneva Fish Keithley Quackenbush, both of whom preceded her in death.

On July 1, 1972, she married Charles I. Hutchinson and he preceded her in death on December 23, 2019.

Survivors include two daughters: Carleeta “Katie” (Dennis) Wilson of Seymour, and Michelle (Randy) Turmail of Vallonia; one step-son, Ronald (Dena) Hutchinson of Vallonia; grandchildren: Leslie (William) Holder, Jesse (Kristi) Hutchinson, Rachel (D.J.) Rouse, Tessa (Brad) Ray, Ethan (Kasey) Wilson, Christin Turmail, Jason Turmail, and Jeff (Kelby) Turmail; great-grandchildren: Liam Holder, Charlotte Holder, Henry Rouse, Conner Rouse, Lyndi Wilson, Isaac Hutchinson, Eli Hutchinson, Ian Hutchinson, Owen Hutchinson, Remy Ray, Mack Ray, and Tucker Turmail; step-brother, Don (Vera) Quackenbush; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Keithley and Polly Hutchinson; several nieces and nephews; and good friends, Jane Crockett and Cathy Callahan.

Shirley was also preceded in death by one brother, Dick Keithley.

Funeral services for Shirley Hutchinson will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Dickie Clampitt officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown.

Memorials may be given to the Jackson County Humane Society or the National Kidney Foundation.
