The Seymour girls basketball team held off host Bloomington South for a 56-51 win Tuesday night on the road.

The Owls (4-2) jumped out to a 17-12 lead after one quarter but only led 29-26 at halftime. The teams were even at 11 points apiece in the third quarter before Seymour had the 16-14 edge in the final 8 minutes.

“I thought we showed a lot of composure, especially for a young team that is still learning some things,” head coach Jason Longmeier said on the radio after the game. “I thought we did a really job of staying organized.”

Seymour’s Grace Schrader led all scorers with 21 points, including three 3-pointers and 5 of 7 from the free throw line. Kendall Sterling was next for the Owls with 18 points, including a 3-pointer and 7 of 9 from the foul line. She scored 12 of her points in the second quarter. Brooke Trinkle added nine points, scoring seven of those in the opening quarter.

“She’s gonna have to play like that in order for us to be successful on the road,” Longmeier said of Schrader.

Seymour’s other scorers were Journee Brown with six points and Eliza Cash with two.

Bloomington South (1-6) was led in scoring by Carlie Pedersen with 19 points.

The Panthers out-rebounded the Owls 27-20.

On Thursday night, Seymour travels to play host Brownstown Central.
