History center announces winter hours, seeks volunteers

The Jackson County History Center will start its winter hours Nov. 1.

Due to a lack of volunteers, the genealogy library at the center, 105 N. Sugar St., Brownstown, will only be open three days a week — from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays — and the Frederick Keach Heller Memorial Museum will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays.

Appointments for genealogy research or a tour may be made by calling 812-358-2118. Anyone interested in volunteering at the center may call the same number and receive training.

The history center also will soon announce hours to set up and view the Christmas trees that will be a part of the Festival of Trees. Anyone interested in setting up a tree in November or arranging a tour in December may call 812-358-2924. This year’s theme is “My favorite animal.”
