The Jackson County Public Library board of trustees approved the 2022 budget during its regular meeting Monday at the Seymour Library.

The library’s 2022 operating fund budget is $2,760,335. This year’s budget was $2,646,536. The 2022 budget will be funded in part by $1,645,469 in property taxes with the remainder funded through miscellaneous revenues.

During the meeting, the board also approved closing for an Evergreen Indiana upgrade Nov. 26 and 27, staff changes, 2022 insurance rates and changes to the meeting space policy. The dates of 2022 closings and board meetings were tabled to the next meeting at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Seymour Library.

The board also received a report from Circulation Manager Christina Hime and approved Director Julia Aker signing the contract for a $26,049.09 American Rescue Plan Act grant for security cameras for the Crothersville and Medora libraries and lounge seating for the Seymour Library.

They also approved spending another $73,000 to $76,000 from budgeted funds in the general operating budget’s furniture and equipment fund to replace wood and cloth furniture at all three libraries.

The board also learned Friends of the Jackson County Public Library raised a record $4,400 taking donations for parking during the Seymour Oktoberfest. The Friends will use that money to sponsor programs for all ages.

Board President Dan Davis appointed Sally Crouch, Jaime McRoy and Don Myers to the nominating committee. Crouch, the committee chairwoman, will bring a slate of officers to the November meeting for a vote at the December meeting. New officers would start their positions in January.
