Cougars win five-setter

The Trinity Lutheran volleyball team went on the road and came away with an impressive five-set win over Floyd Central on Monday night.

The Cougars edged out the Highlanders in the first set 27-25 before dropping the second set 21-25. Trinity bounced back to win the third set 25-23, but then fell in the fourth set 19-25.

In the deciding fifth set, Trinity was able to prevail 16-14.

Bailey Tabeling led the Cougars in hitting with 19 kills, Ruthie Bingham had 18 and Carson Bowling had 15.

In serving, Stella Kleffman had 4 aces while Addison Darlage had 2 aces. Kamzi Gross had 30 digs, Darlage had 20 digs, and Kleffman had 18 digs. Darlage led the Cougars with 52 assists.

Trinity is now 25-4 on the season and have won 15 matches in a row. The Cougars will host Rock Creek tonight at 6 p.m.

Crothersville falls to New Washington

In the penultimate match of the regular season, the Crothersville volleyball team went on the road to New Washington for a Southern Athletic Conference battle.

The Tigers came up short, falling in three sets 25-20, 25-21, 25-15.

In the third set, Crothersville was up 12-8 before New Washington went on a 15-0 run. Kennadi Lakins finally ended the run with a kill, but the too much damage had been done as they trailed 23-13 in the set.

The Tigers served 52 for 56 with 8 aces, led by Karly Gillis, who was 11-12 with 2 aces, and Elayna Ord, who was 10-11 with 2 aces, and Lakins, who was 10-12 with 3 aces.

The Tigers accumlated 9 kills on the night as Lakins had 4, Ord had 1 and Pearl Shirley 1. 9 kills.

Carlee Walker led the Tigers in digs with 16.

Crothersville’s final regular season match will be on Thursday when they go on the road to Lanesville at 6:30 p.m.

Sectional draws revealed

The sectional draws for Indiana high school volleyball were released by the IHSAA on Sunday evening.

For class 1A in the Trinity sectional, Medora will be the first match to take place next Tuesday against Rising Sun at 6 p.m.

The winner of that match will play West Washington the following Saturday at 11 a.m. in the seminfinals.

Crothersville’s first-round matchup will be against Trinity Lutheran, the No. 1 team in Class 1A, on Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The Cougars defeated the Tigers in three sets earlier this season.

The winner of that local county match will play the winner of Jac Cen Del versus Oldenburg (which is the first match on Oct. 14 at 5:30 p.m.). The winners of both of those matches will face-off in the semis on Oct. 16 at 1 p.m.

In Class 3A, Brownstown Central is in the Owen Valley sectional.

The Braves drew West Vigo in the first round. The winner of those two will play in the winner of South Vermillion and Edgewood in the semis.

Brownstown is the reigning sectional champ from one year ago.

Finally, in class 4A, Seymour will be in the Providence sectional.

The Owls, the No. 19 team in the state according to MaxPreps, drew the host school Providence in the first round, who is ranked as the No. 16 team in the state right now.

The winner of those two will get a shot at New Albany in the semifinals, who received an automatic bye.
