David K. Mellencamp, 67, of Cortland, passed away on August 14, 2021, at Schneck Medical Center. He was born in 1954, in Williamsburg, Virginia, son of the late Francis Eugene and Mary Evelyn Mellencamp.

David was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He married Kimberly Kay VonDielingen, and she survives. David loved going to car shows, gardening, working on antique tractors and spending time with his friends. He was a farmer and a graduate of Seymour High School.

He will always be remembered for being a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Along with his beloved wife, David is survived by his children, William David (Dawn) Mellencamp and Thomas Jason Mellencamp; six grandchildren, Aidan Michael Mellencamp, Zachary Thomas Cook, Lane Henry Mellencamp, Oscar William Mellencamp, Turner James Mellencamp and Kyla Monroe Mellencamp; two stepdaughters Hannah Wheeler and Becky Wheeler; brother, Dale Robert (Laura) Mellencamp; sister, Karen Jane (Dan) Davis; uncle John Robert (Marilyn) Runge; seven nieces; one nephew; and numerous cousins.

David is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Cheryl Ann Mellencamp.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021, from 3-8pm at Voss & Sons Funeral Service.

Funeral service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Saturday August 21, 2021, at 10am with visitation one hour prior to service.

Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Memorials may be written to Redeemer Lutheran Church Car Show or the Mary Evelyn Mellencamp Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation of Jackson County.

All arrangements have been entrusted to Voss & Sons Funeral Service in Seymour.
