A Medora man was arrested for child molesting last week after a three-month investigation carried out by detectives with the Indiana State Police Versailles Post.

James Derek Lane, 28, was arrested on one count of child molesting, a Level 1 felony, on Thursday.

Indiana State Police Detective Nathaniel Adams received a request in April to investigate allegations of a female juvenile that was molested at a rural Jackson County home.

Other investigators with the Versailles Post assisted with the investigation.

In an interview conducted by Child Advocacy Center in Bloomington, the victim stated she was touched inappropriately by Lane on an unknown date at a rural residence in Jackson County.

Once the investigation was complete, the case was presented to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office for review. A warrant was issued for Lane on one count of child molesting.

Lane turned himself into law enforcement Thursday and was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown on the same day at 1:25 p.m. He is incarcerated until his initial court appearance.

In Indiana, a Level 1 felony carries a 20 to 40 year prison sentence with an advisory sentence of 30 years if convicted.
