READ Jackson County has been working to get its new hybrid reading tutoring program, Read Rockets, off of the ground.
In order to meet all of the students’ needs and offer services to more students, the nonprofit organization needs volunteers from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and/or Thursdays at Girls Inc. of Jackson County and the Boys and Girls Club of Seymour.
Using a tablet/laptop with an online reading tutoring program, the volunteers, known as Read Rocket guides, will guide students through their lessons as they use their Chromebooks for vocabulary, sounds, stories, asking questions and oral reading.
To participate, volunteers can fill out an application online at readjacksoncounty.com/volunteer-application and must pass a free background check.
