NORTH VERNON

William Roy “Bill” Leahigh, 74, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:51 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at his residence.

Born October 10, 1946, in Seymour, he was the son of William Wallace and Mary Roberta (Chambers) Leahigh. He married Elaine Doty on October 13, 1968 at the First Christian Church in North Vernon; she survives.

Bill was a 1964 graduate of North Vernon High School and served in the U.S. Navy from June 1964 to October 1967. He worked as a machinist for Cummins Engine Company for 32 years before retiring on September 1, 2000. He was a member of Coffee Creek Conservation Club, Freedom Hunt and High School Trap Shooters Club. Bill enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing, and trap shooting.

Surviving with his wife, Elaine, are his son, William David Leahigh of North Vernon and daughter, Mandy Wilson of North Vernon; grandchildren, Garrett (Morgan) Leahigh, Mary Elizabeth Leahigh, Benjamine Wallace Leahigh, Kenton Michael Wilson and William Jet Wilson, all of North Vernon, and Lucas Dale White of Heltonville; and great-grandchild, Eva Marie Leahigh of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Cathy Corinne Leahigh.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Bill on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at the Coffee Creek Conservation Club in Commiskey. Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon were entrusted with the care of these arrangements.

Memorials in honor of Bill may be made through the funeral home to Psi Oates Sorority for Scholarships, Coffee Creek Conservation Club, Our Hospice of Jennings County or Mercy Rescue and Adoption Inc.
