The Rev. Ottis L. Sauls, Jr., 94, of Seymour, passed away on January 19, 2021, at Schneck Medical Center. He was born in 1926 in Austin, Texas, to the late Ottis L. Sauls, Sr., and Dovie Leola Sauls.

After graduation from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 1950, Rev. Sauls was a minister in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, for 40 years, serving churches in Montana, North Dakota, Texas, and Pennsylvania before being called to Redeemer Lutheran in Seymour, where he served for 27 years. After retirement in 1990, Pastor Sauls worked part time for another 19 years as a guest preacher and a visitation pastor.

On June 4, 1950, Ottis married Mary King, who preceded him in death in 2013. They were devoted to church and family life and enjoyed traveling during their 63 years together.

Pastor Sauls is survived by sons David (Elizabeth), Donald (Sandra), and Timothy (Ann) Sauls and daughter Janice (James) Turpin, along with ten grandchildren. A fifth child, Daniel, died in infancy.

Visitation will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Parish Hall on Monday, January 25, 2021, from 4-6 p.m. to assist in social distancing.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from 10 a.m. to the time of service at Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Funeral Services will be conducted by Voss & Sons Funeral Service at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at 11 a.m.

Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Seymour.

The family appreciates prayers and condolences in this time of loss. Pastor Sauls will be missed by many friends in the community and in congregations in the region where he preached or served vacancies.

The family requests memorials may be made in Pastor Sauls’s name in care of Voss & Sons Funeral Service to the Lutheran Hour Ministries or to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
