John C. Pottschmidt, 90, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away on January 20, 2021 at the Lutheran Community Home. He was born May 24, 1930, to the late John H. Pottschmidt and Alma (Tormoehlen) Pottschmidt of Ewing, Jackson County.

John was a retired farmer and enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Dudleytown, where he held various offices. He was a former member of the Lutheran Dartball League and of the Southern Indiana Flyers Club. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954, and earned the rank of Staff-Sergeant.

On April 10, 1955, he married Margaret Koester, who preceded him in death in 2002. In December 2003, he married Shirley Schepman Pottschmidt, who preceded him in death in 2005. In May 2008, he married Beulah Rieckers, who survives.

He is also survived by 4 children: Carla (Terry) Ault, Janet (Jerome) Heil, Dale (Teresa) Pottschmidt and Leon (Christy) Pottschmidt. He is survived by ten grandchildren: Bryan (Lydia) Ault, Aaron Ault, Joshua (Kate) Pottschmidt, Ethan (Shawnee) Ault, Mackenzie (Daniel) Wint, Tyler Pottschmidt, Lydia (Kyle) Benter, Clayton Pottschmidt, Jeron Heil and Mason Pottschmidt and three great-grandchildren, Henry Ault, Nora Wint and Lyndi Ault. He is survived by a sister, Ruth (Rabel) Newkirk and sister-in-law, Eileen Pottschmidt.

He was preceded in death by his son, David Pottschmidt; granddaughter, Kendra Ault; two brothers, Leo Pottschmidt and Fred Pottschmidt and sister, Anna Rieckers.

The family appreciates all the prayers and concern for them in this time of loss. John will be missed by many friends in the community. Cards and notes of condolence will be most welcome.

Friends may call on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dudleytown 2174 S County Rd 750 E, Seymour, IN 47274 from 4-6 p.m. and after 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 25, until time of worship service. Pastor Kenneth Davidson will have family prayer before the viewing on Sunday.

Worship service will be conducted at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dudleytown 2174 S County Rd 750 E, Seymour, IN 47274 on Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeffrey Stuckwisch officiating.

The family requests memorials to be made in John’s name in care of Voss & Sons Funeral Service to the Dudleytown Cemetery Endowment Fund or the donor’s choice.

Burial will be at Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Dudleytown with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.

In accordance with CDC guidelines, masks are required before admittance to the church as well as social distancing within the building. We kindly ask that there be no physical contact such as hugs or handshakes to protect staff and the family.
