State District 45 Sen. Chris Garten, R-Charlestown, recently was appointed assistant majority caucus chairman by Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray, R-Martinsville.

In his new position, Garten will work with the majority caucus chairman, Sen. Travis Holdman, R-Markle, regarding the development of the majority caucus agenda, assist in presiding over the majority caucus meetings and aid with the development of policy and with a variety of other leadership tasks that help keep the Senate running smoothly.

Garten served on the legislative continuity committee during the summer and fall to help prepare legislators for the 2021 legislative session. Members focused on how the legislative branch can better prepare for future emergencies and how the legislature can continue to operate safely and securely in times of crisis.

District 45 includes portions of Jackson and Clark counties and all of Jefferson, Scott and Switzerland counties.
