Veterans being saluted around county

With the risk of COVID-19 hindering the ability to conduct gatherings, there aren’t as many Veterans Day events in Jackson County this year.

Trinity Lutheran High School invites the public to a Veterans Day program at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the school, 7120 N. County Road 875E, Seymour. To monitor capacity due to COVID-19 limitations, RSVP by calling the school office at 812-524-8547.

American Legion Post 89 will have a program at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. It will be in the lower level of the post, 402 W. Second St., Seymour.

VFW Post 1083 will serve a free meal to veterans from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the post, 103 W. Main St., Crothersville. They will have the choice of a cheeseburger or fish sandwich, fries and a soft drink.

The Fort Vallonia chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution plans to distribute goody bags filled with hand lotion, hand sanitizer and other personal care items to female veterans from Jackson and Jennings counties on Wednesday. The drive-thru event will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Jackson County Public Library, 303 W. Second St., Seymour.

Brownstown’s Veterans Day service, normally held at 11 a.m. on Veterans Day inside or outside the Jackson County Courthouse, will not be happening this year.
