Traffic switches planned this week on I-65

Indiana Department of Transportation contractor E and B Paving Inc. plans to switch traffic on northbound and southbound Interstate 65 this week as progress continues on the $143 million reconstruction and added travel lanes project between Seymour and Columbus.

Traffic switches are planned Wednesday and Friday nights, weather permitting.

The switch Wednesday will move northbound traffic back to the northbound side of I-65 from mile marker 50 to mile marker 56 north of Seymour. Traffic from mile marker 50 to mile marker 53.6 will have a full shoulder on the newly constructed northbound side. Traffic from marker mile 53.6 to mile marker 56 will have a partial shoulder as construction work continues in the area.

The switch Friday night will shift southbound traffic to the newly constructed northbound side of I-65 from mile marker 53.6 to mile marker 56, putting both directions of traffic on the northbound side of I-65. This configuration will allow for concrete paving to be completed on southbound I-65 between mile marker 53.6 and mile marker 56 in addition to permanent striping and other work.

Trucks should continue to use the left lane for travel.

The project began in 2018 and is expected to be complete in mid-August.
