The Seymour Chamber of Commerce is reviving efforts to promote, unite and support young professionals and entrepreneurs in the area.
On July 31, the Jackson County Young Professionals will host a relaunching event from 5 to 7 p.m. on the outdoor patio at Poplar Street Restaurant, 513 S. Poplar St., Seymour. The event is free and open to the public.
JCYP’s mission is to attract, retain and connect young talent in the community, said Sasha Norman, event coordinator for the Seymour Chamber of Commerce.
Membership is open to any young professional age 21 to 40 who is interested in networking and growing both professionally and personally, she said.
"We want to engage and empower our next generation of business and community leaders to actively shape the Jackson County area," she said.
Membership benefits include the ability to expand professional and community networks, showcase talents through professional events and community engagement, utilize passions to enhance the community, develop both professionally and personally and sharpen and grow leadership skills.
Although the group existed before, having organized in 2013, it hasn’t been active for about five years.
"JCYP is relaunching because we felt there was a need for opportunities for young professionals to develop a personal network, to grow professionally and to succeed in business while enhancing the community’s quality of life," Norman said.
The group will meet once a month for social, professional, community and educational events.
"We want to provide local young professionals with multiple ways to connect and engage," Norman said.
Annual membership is $25, and interested individuals can join online at seymourchamber.com/jackson-county-young-professionals.
"We believe there are a lot of young professionals in the community," she said.
