What led you to run?
Coming out of college, I felt the call to serve in some capacity. Growing up watching my father spend his whole career moving around the country with the U.S. Air Force, I witnessed him lead by example in humble service. After joining the Seymour Fire Department 25 years ago, I found fulfillment in serving my neighbor. I have been retired for four years now and still feel that same call. I would like to use the office of coroner to utilize the skills I have gained through my 21 years with the fire department and as a business owner to give back to the community.
What does this position mean to you?
This position means the opportunity to serve my neighbor. This community has been good to my family and me. It has given me great friends, support for my business and good education for my children. I believe I have been blessed with the skill set to handle situations that would come up as coroner.
What makes you the most qualified candidate?
I believe what makes me the most qualified candidate is the ability not only to work but also manage stressful and hard situations. As a captain at the fire department, I managed countless emergency scenes and handled confidential information in an appropriate manner. Being a business owner has given me similar skills of acting with steady professionalism through challenging calls. I am also currently serving as a deputy coroner for Jackson County and have completed my medicolegal death investigation certification needed for being coroner. I believe this would allow me to run and work alongside others in the office of coroner. This is why at this time, I believe my faith, family, past and current involvements would make me the best candidate to serve professionally, respectfully and privately as an advocate for those going through this difficult time of their life.
If elected, what will you do to better serve this community?
If I were elected for the position of coroner, I would continue to uphold the quality of professionalism the past candidates have displayed. I respect the job they have done and would like to continue to grow the office as our community grows.
