Indiana Department of Transportation contractor E and B Paving Inc. began beam setting operations Tuesday night on U.S. 31 over Interstate 65 in Jackson County as part of a superstructure replacement project.
The overpass is located between Uniontown and Seymour.
Northbound traffic had intermittent stoppages while bridge beams were placed over the interstate Tuesday night, and southbound traffic will have intermittent stoppages today between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., weather permitting. Stoppages will last up to 20 minutes at a time.
Motorists are encouraged to seek an alternate route or allow extra time to avoid delays.
U.S. 31 will remain closed at this location through late July until the project is completed. The official detour route will remain U.S. 50 to I-65 at Exit 36 in Crothersville.
INDOT asks motorists to slow down, watch for stopped traffic and drive distraction-free through the work zone.
The completion date for the entire contract, including the bridge deck overlay further north on U.S. 31 over Mutton Ditch Creek, is Sept. 30. All work is weather dependent.
