Robert S. Hill, 87, of Columbus, died at 9:00 a.m., May 3, 2020, at Homeview Health and Rehabilitation in Franklin, Indiana.
Robert was born February 5, 1933 in Seymour, the son of Clyde Hill and Irma Hibner Hill. He married Janet S. Polley Hill on July 26, 1952.
Robert was an engineer with Arvin Industries, retiring after 35 years. He was a corporal in the Army during the Korea War. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, mushroom hunting, Bible Studies and spending time with his family. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, where he taught Sunday School for 60 years. He was a board member, sang in the choir, leader of the PAL Youth Group, mentor and counselor to many and was avid Bible reader.
Private family services will be Friday, May 8, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Muncie officiating. Calling will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2020 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with Military Rites performed by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Greg W. (Deidra) Hill of Greenwood and Mark R. (Kim) Hill of Mooresville; daughters, Debbi A. (Phil) Hammel of Anderson and Cindi (Edmond) Jones of Columbus; sisters, Luann (Gordon) Barker of Edinburgh and Connie (Jude) Richardson of Mechanics, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Nicole Hammel, Joshua Meredith, Jared Meredith, Zachary Meredith, Brooke Shotts, Stephanie Johnson, Jenna Epkey and Xavior Hill; great-grandchildren, Bailey Kirts, Reeve Jarrell, Owen Meredith, Joshua Ryan Meredith, Kaylan Meredith, Christine Fisher, Roland Epkey, Gabriel Epkey, Matt Hoover, Greg Hoover, Joshua Hoover, Emmalyn Shotts, Nick Johnson, Allison Johnson and Oliva Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Scott Hill, Ralph Hill and Doug Hill.
With the new instructions issued by the State allowing gatherings of 25 people, we welcome friends to pay respects while continuing to follow social distancing guidelines.
