Closings, cancellations due to coronavirus threat

The following are closings, cancellations and any other changes that have been reported in Jackson County related to the coronavirus threat.

Facilities

  • Anchor House Family Assistance Center and Pantry in Seymour will offer prebagged food in a pickup/drive-thru style on its food pantry days.
  • Brownstown Public Library will be closed until further notice.
  • Community Diner’s regular Monday meals will be offered to-go until further notice. A second cold meal will be offered at the same time. Meals can be picked up between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. at the fellowship hall door at the corner of Broadway and Third streets in Seymour.
  • Crothersville Senior Citizens Center is closed until further notice.
  • Crothersville Town Hall is closed to the public until further notice. Residents can place bills in the drop box outside the town hall, call in to pay with a credit card or pay online at crothersville.net. The drop box will be checked twice a day. Employees will be in the office to answer any questions by phone.
  • Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 655 is closed until at least the end of March.
  • Girls Inc. of Jackson County in Seymour is closed through April 3.
  • Jackson County Clerk’s Office will remain open, but people are encouraged to conduct business by mail if at all possible, including requesting absentee ballots, which can be done until April 23.
  • Jackson County History Center will be closed while county schools and the Jackson County Public Library.
  • Jackson County Public Library branches in Seymour, Crothersville and Medora are closed through April 5. The Discovery Bus also will be off the road. All programs, events and public meeting room use indefinitely are canceled. All materials, except hotspots, won’t be due back until April 27. Library cardholders can still use the library’s online resources, including books, magazines and movies available on the library’s website at myjclibrary.org/online-resources-2. Anyone in need of free WiFi can access it in the library parking lot 24/7.
  • Jackson County Sheriff’s Department has suspended all jail programs, including pastor visits, AA meetings, REC, Celebrate Recovery, MRT, GED classes, CPT and all other programs not mentioned, until further notice.
  • Jackson County Visitor Center is closed to the public.
  • Knights of Columbus Council 1252 in Seymour is closed and has canceled meetings.
  • Schneck Medical Center in Seymour will have its main entrance accessible between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The shuttle service will be discontinued until further notice. The Schneck Professional Building entrance to the main hospital remains open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the emergency department entrance remains open 24/7. Every visitor and patient will be screened before entering the main hospital building. Consider arriving early for any scheduled appointments to allow time for screening. Visitors are limited to two per patient and must be 18 or older. Anyone with fever and/or chills, sore throat, muscle aches, runny or stuffy nose, cough, fatigue, headache and vomiting and/or diarrhea is asked to refrain from visiting patients.
  • Seymour Community Center gatherings and activities are postponed until April 6.
  • Seymour Elks Lodge 462 will be closed for all events and meetings until further notice.
  • Seymour Gymnastics Center classes are canceled until April 3.

Businesses and services

The state has asked all restaurants and bars to close their in-house dining and only offer drive-thru or carryout.

  • Azteca Mexican Restaurant in Brownstown plans to offer to-go meals from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Family packs are available for lunch and dinner. 812-358-7044.
  • Beauty from Ashes Tattoo Parlor in Crothersville is open by appointment only. No walk-ins are allowed. 812-793-0060.
  • Blondie’s Pizzeria and Pub in Brownstown is offering a lunch menu and will be open normal hours for carryout. 812-358-1800.
  • CrossFit Seymour is closed. The staff will post two weeks’ worth of at-home workouts on the SugarWod app and hopes to have a virtual classroom up and running by March 18.
  • Freddy’s in Seymour has closed its lobby, but the drive-thru is open.
  • Hill’s Fish Stand in Seymour is only taking call-in and curbside service until further notice. 812-522-1526.
  • Jackson County United Way’s Free Income Tax Assistance program is closed.
  • Kayla Stice State Farm in Brownstown is in lockdown mode, meaning the door is locked but staff can answer questions, take payments, process applications and submit claims via phone or email. Payments also may be put in the drop slot on the door, and receipts can be mailed or emailed upon request or sent back through the slot. Envelopes are provided. 812-358-5700.
  • Metro by T-Mobile is temporarily closing an hour early. Temporary hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. 812-515-2114.
  • Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant in Seymour has closed its front entrance but will have pickup for to-go orders on the side of the building at the ramp. Employees will be at the window ready to take orders or for pickup orders. 812-519-0231.
  • Miller Law LLC in Brownstown will not be conducting face-to-face meetings with clients for the next two weeks. All legal consultations will be via telephone. 812-569-7671.
  • Poplar Street Restaurant in Seymour is limited to carryout from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and also is offering delivery service from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. 812-522-9924.
  • Pizza Palace in Seymour will remain open for carryout and delivery services during normal business hours until further notice. 812-522-8100.
  • Racin’ Mason Pizza and Fun Zone in Seymour is closed this week.
  • Rails Craft Brew and Eatery’s dining room will be closed until further notice. Carryout offered from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. 812-271-1191.
  • Spurgeon Funeral Home in Brownstown is limiting attendance at funeral visitations and services to no more than 50 people, including immediate family and officiants, for the next eight weeks. During funerals and visitations, people are asked to not shake hands and to practice proper hygiene and social distancing. 812-358-2252.
  • Subway in Crothersville has closed its dining room. Customers can still walk in to order, call in an order and order online. 812-793-3377.
  • The Brooklyn Pizza Co. and The Seymour Brewing Co. in Seymour are offering curbside service and delivery only. The businesses are closed for lunch this week and will be open for curbside service and delivery at 3 p.m. starting March 17. 812-524-8888.
  • The Thirsty Sportsman in Crothersville is only offering takeout and delivery. 812-793-3326.
  • Voss and Sons Funeral Service in Seymour is limiting attendance at funeral visitations and services to no more than 50 people, including immediate family and officiants, for the next eight weeks. Churches

  • Brownstown Christian Church Wednesday night events have been canceled, including a food packing event March 18 and the last Wednesday night meal.
  • Brownstown United Methodist Church is suspending Sunday worship services and Bible study on Wednesdays and Thursdays through March. Services will be on Facebook Live and/or YouTube.
  • Crothersville United Methodist Church will be closed for the next three weeks. Services will resume April 5.
  • Driftwood Christian Church in Vallonia has canceled midweek meetings and suppers, but church and Sunday school remain unaffected.
  • First Baptist Church in Seymour has canceled all Wednesday night church activities, including dinner, Bible study and choir, until further notice.
  • First United Methodist Church in Seymour suspended congregational worship, meetings and events for the remainder of March.
  • Trinity United Methodist Church in Seymour is suspending its worship services for the coming weeks. It will still broadcast the weekly message at 11 a.m. Sundays on WZZB 1390 AM and 99.3 FM and online at dev.tumcseymour.org.
  • Uniontown Baptist Church has canceled Sunday services March 22 and 29. Unless advised otherwise, the church will reconvene services at 10 a.m. April 5.

Events

  • Actors Community Theater of Seymour has postponed its production of “Love/Sick.” The rescheduled dates will be announced when they are confirmed. Auditions for “Savannah Sipping Society” are still scheduled for 7 p.m. March 29 and 30.
  • Brownstown Exchange Club’s regular weekly meeting for March 24 has been canceled.
  • The wildflower hike previously planned for Becks Mill on April 11 has been canceled.
  • Jackson County Visitor Center discussion and book signing Abigail Pesta planned for March 18 has been postponed.
  • Hamilton Township alumni banquet has been postponed. It was originally scheduled for March 28 at Pewter Hall in Brownstown. The reschedule date will be announced when it’s determined.
  • IPOD Day scheduled for April 16 at Seymour High School is canceled and will not be rescheduled.
  • Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast scheduled for April 10 at The Pines Evergreen Room in Seymour has been canceled. Refunds will be given. Call 812-522-4020 with questions.
  • Purdue Extension Jackson County has canceled or postponed all face-to-face events through April 6. 4-H club meetings scheduled through April 6 are canceled.
  • Seymour Chamber of Commerce’s meet-and-greet with new President Dan Robison on March 24, roundtable with Mayor Matt Nicholson on March 25 and After Hours at Prestigious Affairs on March 26 are postponed, and all chamber committee meetings have been canceled through April 6.
  • Thrive Alliance temporarily suspended its on-site meal services until further notice and canceled the speaker series planned for the sites, including Crothersville Senior Citizens Center and Seymour Community Center, during the month of March.

Athletics

  • Brownstown Youth Soccer League activities are suspended through at least April 2. The season is scheduled to start the week of April 13 with games. If any other suspensions of play are mandated, they will be communicated. There are no plans to cancel the season at this moment.
  • Crothersville Youth League moved the start of practices to late April and games to May.
  • Seymour Youth League will not conduct its draft March 25. League directors will meet and contact coaches to have their own individual meetings. The plan is resume practices the week of April 6.

Schools

All public and private schools in Jackson County are out until at least April 6. Many of them are implementing eLearning.

  • Crothersville Junior-Senior High School’s office hours will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. via email.
  • Medora Community Schools will be open from 11 a.m. to noon weekdays for to-go lunches and assistance for downloading lessons.
