The girls basketball state tournament starts next Tuesday, and local teams are wrapping up their regular seasons this weekend.
Seymour, Brownstown Central and Trinity Lutheran are all finishing up tonight before turning their attention to some familiar faces in the opening round of their respective sectional tournaments.
The Owls and Braves face conference rivals New Albany and North Harrison, respectively, while the Cougars head over to Madison. All three contests offer one last good test before the postseason begins.
Here are the rest of the girls games taking place this weekend:

Union Dugger at Medora, 6:30 p.m., Friday; Medora at Cannelton, 4:30 p.m., Saturday
Two games this close to the start of the sectional tournament is a little unusual, but schedule changes have forced the Hornets to make up two Southern Roads Conference games.
This will be the first time the Hornets face Cannelton but the second instance of battling Dugger. Dugger defeated Medora by 29 at the beginning of the season.
Medora takes on Shawe Memorial in the first round of the West Washington Sectional next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Christian Academy at Crothersville, 7 p.m., Friday; Crothersville at Columbus Christian, 5 p.m., Saturday
Schedule changes also have allowed the Tigers to pick up an extra game before the postseason begins.
Tiger coach Kevin Hensley wasn’t too happy with the offensive effort the last time his team played CAI, but rock-solid defense won the day 29-28. Now, they get a rematch with the Warriors, and it gives the Tigers a chance to show what they’ve learned from the previous meeting.
Saturday’s meeting with Columbus Christian also gives the Tigers one final matchup against a good team. The Crusaders are 16-4 and do not have a postseason to worry about. They’ll give Crothersville everything they’ve got as they focus on their final three games of the year.
Crothersville faces the winner of the Trinity Lutheran/Edinburgh game next Friday at 6 p.m.
Now to the boys games.
All games start at 7:30 p.m. unless noted
Floyd Central at Seymour, Friday
Just one game on the docket this weekend for the Owls, who are hoping to bounce back after suffering two straight losses for the first time in 2020.
Points were hard to come by in both games last Friday and Saturday for the Owls, combing for just 66 points across their two games against Bedford North Lawrence and Scottsburg.
Seymour coach Kirk Manns said his players are working on gaining confidence in their shots and they should get better as the season continues.
They get another good chance to try and move ahead in the Hoosier Hills Conference rankings against the Highlanders, who sit tied for second at 3-1.
The Highlanders are on a three-game winning streak, including two wins over HHC rivals Jennings County and Madison.
Brownstown Central at Charlestown, Friday; Brownstown Central at Corydon Central, Saturday
After Tuesday’s win over Austin, the Braves have two more chances to move up the standings in the Mid-Southern Conference this weekend.
Both the Pirates and Panthers have posted just one win in the MSC and have combined for just 10 victories overall. Both teams also are surrendering more than 60 points a game and, in the case of Charlestown, struggling to score.
Since the Jennings County game, the Braves have really started to turn things around offensively, and coach Dave Benter has taken notice.
Even though they’ve only won two of their last four games, the Braves have delivered 54 points or more in each contest. Prior to that, BC had only scored more than 50 points twice all season.
Crothersville at Trinity Lutheran, Friday; Crothersville at Columbus Christian, Saturday
The Tigers are riding high after getting their first Southern Athletic Conference win of the season last Friday in dramatic fashion.
Josh Thomas drove the lane and got a scoop shot to fall at the buzzer to secure the overtime win for the Tigers over South Central, and it catapulted them into a two-win weekend after trouncing Medora by 51 points.
Crothersville faces its second Jackson County and sectional rival in less than a week in the Cougars.
The Tigers won both meetings last season by eight points or fewer, and the Cougars last triumphed in the sectional opener in 2018, 74-71.
The Cougars, too, had a two-win weekend, defeating both Medora and South Ripley. A victory Friday night at home would put them at .500 for the season with five games to go.
Medora at Cannelton, Saturday
Just a Saturday game on the schedule this week for the Hornets, who will look for some revenge against Cannelton.
The Bulldogs defeated Medora 61-34 in their SRC tournament to open the season.
With an extra day to prepare, the Hornets could knock off a Cannelton team that has lost seven straight and is allowing 50 or more points in each contest.
