Braves of the Month announced

Three girls were recognized as Brownstown Central Community School Corp. Students of the Month for October during Tuesday night’s board of trustees meeting in the administration office.

Those honored were junior Lela Hendley, sixth grader Hailey Bair and fourth grader Loralei West.

Hendley was nominated by German teacher Angie Sibrel and other foreign language teachers.

"Lela contributes energy, intelligence and humor to our classroom," high school Principal Joe Sheffer said in reading the teachers’ nomination letter.

"She quests for a deeper level of understanding and she makes us laugh every day. Lela is a top performing student at BCHS and we are lucky to have her."

Bair was nominated by sixth grade teachers.

"Not only is Hailey a model student, who is a conscientious worker and problem solver, she models the three Rs of respect, responsibility and resourcefulness," middle school Principal Doug McClure said in sharing the teachers’ comments. "All the while with a great sense of humor. She has the ability and maturity to take jokes and pass them along. In the classroom, she is always engaged with a smile no matter the task. She is considerate of her teachers and classmates and always willing to help."

Outside the classroom, Bair demonstrates her leadership ability on the basketball court and softball diamond.

"Most importantly, we would like to mention her impeccable handwriting, which I would like to see at some point, and her enjoyment of Mrs. Schepman’s 1980s country music," McClure said. "I have no explanation for that. The sixth grade team is honored to have Hailey in class."

West was named Little Brave of the Month for music by her teacher Lori Tabor.

"First of all, she is being recognized for her outstanding achievement in the area of music," Principal Chrystal Street said when sharing Tabor’s comments with the board.

"Loralei demonstrates a high level of musical abilities and skills," Street said. "She shows leadership qualities especially in the area of singing and acting."
