Columbus woman dies in crash north of Cortland

A 23-year-old Bartholomew County woman died early Friday in a single vehicle crash in north central Jackson County, police report.

Makalia W. Robinson of Columbus was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash in the 9000 block North of County Road 100E in Hamilton Township.

A motorist reported the wreck at 5:56 a.m. Friday, Lt. Adam Nicholson with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said.

Nicholson said Robinson was driving a blue 2007 Honda Civic in northbound on County Road 100E when she lost control of the vehicle, which then left the east side of the road.

Police said the car rolled at least three times before it came to a rest in the middle of the roadway.

Robinson was partially ejected from the vehicle, Nicholson said.

No other vehicles were known to be in the area at the time of the crash, police said.

Officer Ben Rudolph was the first on scene and was assisted by officers Brad Barker and Mitch Ray.

Jackson County EMS responded to the scene along with firefighters with the Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Department and Seymour Fire Department.
