Mr. Jack Pershing Miller, 87, of Seymour, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in 1931, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Garrett Hobart and Geneva Blanche (Walters) Miller.
On August 23, 1958 he married Patricia Joan Boone; she survives.
Mr. Miller was a member of the Brownstown Christian Church. He graduated from Carlisle High School in 1949. He served in the US Navy on the Blenny 324 submarine during the Korean War. Mr. Miller received a Masters degree with an Education Specialist Degree.
For many years he taught US History and accounting, and was a basketball coach. Later, at Seymour High School he was a counselor and administrator.
Mr. Miller was a member of the Seymour Evening Lions Club, was president and treasurer of Jackson County Society for the Handicapped, and was treasurer of the Brownstown Church of Christ for over 15 years, and was a member of Gideons International.
Besides his wife he is survived by his son, Thad P. Miller; brother, Phil Miller; brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Shirley D’Agostino as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Chester and Robert Miller.
Funeral services will be held at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Thursday, July 18 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Michael Hogg officiating.
Friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
Burial will take place at Odd Fellows Cemetery, State Road 58, Carlisle, IN.
