The Jackson County Soil and Water Conservation District board of directors approved spending $15,000 for a cost-share grant on cover crops at the July 8 board meeting.
The cost-share grant will be available immediately on a first-come, first-served basis, and the payout will be $100 per acre up to 50 acres per person or a maximum of $500 per person.
The Natural Resource Conservation Service guidelines for preapproved seed and seeding rates will be followed.
The deadline to seed the cover crop is Sept. 15. Fields enrolled in any conservation service program for cover crops will not be eligible for this grant.
Landowners wishing to participate need to stop by the office at 1350 Woodside Drive in Brownstown and fill out an operation detail sheet, an application and mark maps to show the fields they wish to enroll. They also need to bring their farm number and tract number of those fields.
The deadline to apply for the grant is Sept. 1.
