An anonymous tip led to the arrest of a man in violation of the sex offender registry law.
Scott Nathan Richardson, 30, of North Vernon faces a Level 5 felony charge of failure to register as a sex offender. He was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 7:08 a.m. Thursday and is being held without bond.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Adam Nicholson, who manages the Jackson County sex offender registry, received information about Richardson moving to the county and not reporting the address change, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.
The sex offender registry law requires offenders to report their new address to the sheriff’s department in the county they reside within 72 hours, police said.
Nicholson made contact with Jennings County Sheriff’s Department Officer Doug Brown, who manages that county’s sex offender registry, and advised him of the information that was received.
Brown went to the address in Jennings County where Richardson was registered and was supposed to be living. Brown confirmed Richardson no longer lived at that address, police said.
Nicholson then attempted to locate Richardson at the address in Jackson County that was received from the tip. It was learned that Richardson had been staying there for more than a week but wasn’t present at the time, police said.
The person at the residence told Nicholson of another address in the Crothersville area where Richardson frequently visited. Nicholson shared the address with Crothersville Police Department Officer Alan Jones and requested he check for Richardson there.
Jones located Richardson at the address in Crothersville and detained him. Nicholson met with Jones at the residence and arrested Richardson.
