Officer Isaac Barkes was the first to respond to the incident, according to a news release from North Vernon Police Department.

Barkers reported he spoke to male who had been threatened, and he said he was confronted by two males and a female. The male said a verbal altercation occurred and one of the males held a knife to his neck while making threats toward him.

That male also informed Barkes the two males told him to empty his pockets and also tried to take his cellphone and phone charger while brandishing the knife.

The female involved also attempted to grab the victim’s cellphone while he was trying to call to police.

While speaking with the victim, Barkes reported he saw a male subject walking on the sidewalk in the immediate area.

The male, who was attacked, was able to identify the male as one of the ones that was involved, Barkes said.

Barkes also located the other male and the female involved coming out from between two houses in the area. All three were detained and later arrested and taken to the Jennings County Jail.

While questioning the suspects, knives were removed from one of the males. Several bags containing stolen items from multiple vehicles also were located. These items were collected and other victims were located for some of the recovered items.

Drug paraphernalia also was located in the female’s purse.
