Final preparations for Relay for Life being made

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Columbus conducted its final regular 2019 season team meeting May 14 at Columbus Utilities.

The “I Relay, What’s Your Superpower” Relay for Life of Columbus event, open to the public, will be from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. June 22 at the Donner Park shelter house.

Tuesday is Bank Night at 6 p.m. at the shelter house where team captains or a representatives will pick up shirts, turn in money and select a team site location. Sites should be decorated with the superhero theme.

Luminaria names and photos in honor or memory of cancer patients are due by Saturday via email to [email protected].

Teams also are encouraged to get silent and live auction items to bring to the event and make name tags for team members.

The Survivor Dinner was May 18 at The Point fellowship hall in Seymour. Survivors who were unable to attend the dinner are encouraged to register online at relayforlife.org/columbusin by Tuesday or arrive on site by 10:30 a.m. June 22 for registration. The survivor lap is part of the opening ceremony at 11 a.m. that day.

Here is the agenda for Relay for Life:

7 a.m.: Gates open for team site setup

11 a.m.: Opening ceremony with survivor, survivor and caregiver and sponsor laps

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Silent auction

Noon: Survivor lunch

Noon to 1:30 p.m.: Entertainment

1:30 p.m.: Real life superhero lap

2:30 p.m.: Survivor ice cream social

3 p.m.: Fight Back ceremony including Fight Back Challenge participants and speaker

3:30 p.m.: Columbus Regional Health sponsor lap

4 to 6 p.m.: Live auction

9:30 p.m.: Luminaria ceremony

10:30 p.m.: Closing ceremony

Inflatable jousting, guest superheroes, a cornhole tournament and children’s activities also are planned for the event.
