The Seymour High School boys track and field program held a season-ending awards ceremony last week in the school's cafeteria.Owls sophomore Josh Pennington was named the team's most valuable athlete. Pennington was a state-qualifier in the 110 hurdles, finishing 23rd in 15.52 seconds.Pennington was runner-up at the Bloomington North Regional with a personal-best time of 15.31 and second at the Bedford North Lawrence Sectional in 15.67. He also competed in the long jump and the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.The Most Outstanding Field Event award went to seniors Haden Mettert and Caleb Madden.Mettert was the sectional champion in the shot put (51-1), and placed sixth in the regional. Madden qualified for the regional in the discus and teamed up with Mettert for a blue ribbon at the New Albany Relays.Senior Michael Hodge and junior Luke Bane were both Academic All-State First Team members.From left, Hodge, Bane, Madden, Pennington; not pictured: Mettert.
