Jennings deputies arrest North Vernon man after chase

The Tribune Staff Reports

Officers with Jennings County Sheriff’s Department arrested a motorcyclist who failed to stop and led deputies on a chase Friday.

Michael Hubbard, 34, of North Vernon faces a preliminary felony charge of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving while suspended with a prior conviction, according to a news release from Chief Deputy David Turner.

Hubbard, who was on a motorcycle, failed to stop at a stop sign, leading to the traffic stop, conducted by Turner, Sheriff Kenny Freeman and Reserve Officer Eric Pettit.

The three officers used a new utility task vehicle the department had just put in service to make that stop, but Hubbard drove away, Turner said. Officer Drew Heilers assisted with the pursuit.

The pursuit eventually went off road, but Hubbard came to a creek and ravine he could not cross with the motorcycle and fled on foot, Turner said. After a short foot pursuit, Hubbard was arrested.

Hubbard was being held on a $1,055 bond at the Jennings County Jail.
