Take a Kid Fishing Day set at refuge

Take a Kid Fishing Day set at wildlife refuge

The annual Take a Kid Fishing event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge, 12985 E. U.S. 50, Seymour.

This year, the focus of the event will be on how to fish. Refuge staff and volunteers will be on hand to show new anglers the basics of fishing with all equipment provided. There will be a lot of fun activities for youngsters (besides fishing) during the event, including fishing games and a fish craft. Fishing poles, bait and tackle will be loaned out during the event.

June 1 is a free fishing day in Indiana each year, and on that day, no one needs a fishing license.

The free event aims to connect young people with nature by getting them outdoors, and everyone is invited.

The Muscatatuck Wildlife Society, the nonprofit refuge support group, is the primary sponsor.

The 7,802-acre refuge is located 3 miles east of Interstate 65 at Seymour on U.S. 50.
