Braves advance to sectional semis
CORYDON
Brownstown Central’s softball team opened postseason play with a 9-5 Sectional 30 win over Charlestown Tuesday.
The Braves (14-11) will face the host school tonight in the semifinals. Class 3A No. 10 North Harrison was upset by Corydon 2-0 last night.
Against the Pirates, the Braves led 3-1 after three innings before distancing themselves by scoring four runs in the fifth.
The Pirates added three runs in the bottom of the seventh, down 9-2, but weren’t able to make the comeback.
Both teams collected eight hits on the night.
Freshmen Erin Singleton and Maddison Brittain each had two hits on the evening. Brittain and Zoe Fountain each recorded triples, and Fountain batted in two runners.
Brittain earned the win in the circle, finishing with two strikeouts, eight hits, two walks and three earned runs.
The Braves beat Corydon 5-2 on May 14. Brownstown hasn’t won a sectional title since 2010.
BOYS GOLF
Trinity Lutheran tops GCA in dual match
Trinity Lutheran beat Greenwood Christian Academy 181-193 Tuesday in a dual match at Shadowood Golf Course.
Cougars senior Mark Shoemaker was the medalist by shooting 40 (+4).
Kade Hill carded a 46, Josiah Foster shot 47, Jacob Sabotin totaled 48 and Rylan Nierman had 53 for the Cougars.
Braves beat Bluejackets
BEDFORD
Cooper Wolka’s medalist score of 47 (+12) led Brownstown Central to a 201-207 victory over Mitchell Tuesday.
Luke Darlage and Caden Clodfelder each shot 51s, Lucas VonDielingen carded 52 and Liam Kreis had 60 for the Braves.
