Fundraisers planned for girl with autoimmune disorder

Two fundraisers have been planned in early June to help the family of a North Vernon girl diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder.

Katie Lawrence, 8, the daughter of Justin and Erin Lawrence, and a student at Liberty Christian Academy in Seymour, has been diagnosed with a pediatric acute-onset neuropsychiatric syndrome. The disease basically means her immune system is attacking her brain and causing it to swell.

She also has been diagnosed with specific antibody deficiency, which means her body is not producing antibodies for many illnesses, and she has selective immunoglobulin A deficiency and Lyme disease.

The first fundraiser, sponsored by Beauty From Ashes Tattoo Shop, will begin at noon June 1 at the shop at 218 N. Armstrong St., Crothersville. The tattoos, which must come from a selection of pre-drawn designs, will cost $50 each with all of the money going to help Katie.

The second fundraiser will be a car wash set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 8 at Taco Bell, 1509 E. Tipton St., Seymour.

Katie has had many appointments, medications and treatments that are not covered by insurance, including recent treatments that cost $17,000 each.

The fundraisers are being organized by the Leaving the 99 Luke 15:4, a ministry operated by Jason and Jan Davis of Seymour.
