Seymour places second at sectional

Scoring 93 points, Seymour placed second out of eight teams in Saturday’s sectional in Borden.

Jennings County won with 142 points. After Seymour, New Albany was third with 93, followed by Corydon Central (91), Floyd Central (87), North Harrison (53), Borden (51) and Lawrenceburg (47).

It was a big improvement for Seymour after finishing last in conference and sectional in 2018 in its first year of unified track and field.

“Today was a true group effort with several strong performances,” Seymour coach Jessica Floyd said.

Seymour’s Luke Plummer won the 400-meter dash in 56.56, while Elijah Osborne placed fourth in 1:01.78 and Zac Croquart was sixth in 1:03.62.

The 400-meter relay team of A.J. Engel, Carter Hendrix, Plummer and Croquart finished second in 55.60; Hendrix was third (13.11) and Levi Croquart (13.58) was fourth in the 100-meter dash; and Ryan Elmore was fifth in the shot put (36-3). Elmore’s toss was a personal record.

Others posting PRs were Engel in the 400 (1:11.22) and Addison Wingler (25-4 ½) and Haley Ackeret (17-7) in the shot put.

Jennings County, Seymour and New Albany advance to the Bedford North Lawrence Regional, which starts at 1 p.m. Saturday. They will be joined by Columbus North, BNL, Bloomington North, Franklin Central, Brownsburg, Mooresville, Mt. Vernon, Jasper and Boonville.

The top six teams at regional will move on to the state finals June 1 at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex at Indiana University in Bloomington.

Owls top Musketeers to conclude season

PEKIN

Seymour concluded its regular season with a 3-1 win over Eastern on Monday.

The Musketeers scored its lone run in the sixth inning while the visitors scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

The Owls (14-10) outhit the Musketeers 9-3 in the game. Brayden Wilson led the Owls with three hits while Devin Hill and Jake Roberts each had two.

Roberts picked up the win on the mound, tossing five innings while recording four strikeouts, two hits and five walks.

Seymour plays Floyd Central in the late game at Sectional 15, hosted by Bedford North Lawrence, Wednesday.
