The Braves advanced with a 3-2 win over Trinity Lutheran on Thursday. The Seymour-Austin match was suspended because of lightening with the Owls leading 2-1.

Seymour’s Kirby Hill and Austin’s Caitlyn Royalty split sets Thursday, with Hill winning 6-0, then Royalty 6-2, and she was ahead 2-0 in the third set when play was suspended.

Royalty won the first game Friday before Hill rallied to win 6-4 to send the Owls to the finals.

“(Hill) gained confidence,” Fenton said. “She has come back from a lot of matches. She is usually a steady player who hustles and is a great example to our team.

“As the sets went on I think we got a little better with our serving. We’ve been working on our ground strokes and trying to place as best we can, and we just need to keep our mental focus.”

In the other match completed Friday, Sarah Robbins topped Peyton Levine 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

“Austin is a great team,” Fenton said. “We don’t play them in our season and I would love to.”

On Thursday, Jalen Coomer of Austin beat Sandra Cerino 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Seymour’s Mallory Moore and Kristina Griffin beat Jessica Spencer and Claurice Goodin 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Avery Ragon and Madalyn Baurle beat Kendra Allen and Mayci Furnish 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Fenton said she liked the way her doubles teams played aggressive.

“We’ve been building on that and they were working on being more aggressive and really placing shots, and working together, “she said.

Winner of the sectional will advance to the Bloomington South RegionalTuesday.
