Yard sales set for this weekend along U.S. 50
The 20th annual Great U.S. 50 Yard Sale is Friday through Sunday.
The sale started in Jennings County in 2000 as a way to promote local tourism. Since then, it has grown to include participation from California to Maryland.
Participation is open to all. There is no fee for participation, although property owners may charge for renting out vendor space. Community organizations are particularly encouraged to use the sale as a fundraising activity.
Vendors are reminded they cannot set up on private property without permission, and they cannot set up on government property. They should allow for parking and consider road safety for entry and exit.
Tom Taylor, coordinator for the sale, said the yard sale is a win for everyone.
“Some people make some extra money, while others find bargains,” he said. “Items sold are being recycled, which reduces waste.”
