A North Vernon man died in a single-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on State Road 7 near Private Road 625W.

The initial investigation by Trooper Jacob Tolle with the Indiana State Police Versailles Crash Reconstruction Team showed Matthew L. Lonsberry, 51, of North Vernon was driving a 1988 Ford truck south on State Road 7 near Private Road 625W when it left the west side of the road, overturned, struck a utility pole and came to rest on its top, police said.

Both Lonsberry and a passenger, Mary Lonsberry, 52, of North Vernon, were trapped inside the truck and had to be extricated by emergency personnel, police said.

Matthew Lonsberry died from the injuries he sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jennings County Coroner’s Office, state police said.

Mary Lonsberry was transported to Columbus Regional Health for treatment of serious injuries and was later transferred to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where she was listed in good condition Monday.

State Road 7 was closed approximately one hour for crash investigation and cleanup. The wreck was reported around 5:30 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing, and toxicology results are pending on Matthew Lonsberry, state police said.
