Children injured in crash north of Seymour

A 9-year-old child was injured following a crash reported to police Saturday on the north side of the city.

The child received a head laceration after being ejected from a vehicle during the crash, reported at 10:32 a.m. in the 1500 block of North Ewing Street in Seymour.

Chief Bill Abbott said the child was airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis as a precaution. An update on the child’s condition was not available.

Abbott said Diego Francisco, 31, was driving south on Ewing Street when he missed a curve and overcorrected before crossing both lanes and hitting a concrete culvert.

The impact flipped the car on its roof, Abbott said.

Police believe a 3-year-old was not restrained and was found on the inside roof of the vehicle with minor injuries. Francisco and a 17-year-old also received minor injuries.

“It sounds like they were lucky,” Abbott said.

Francisco was cited for seat belt violations, never receiving a license and operating without proof of insurance, Abbott said.
