Garnet R. Buster, age 84, of Brownstown, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at his home. Born August 12, 1934 in Metcalf County, Kentucky, he was the son of John and Mary Frances (Garland) Buster. On February 26, 1960 in Jonesville, he married Patty Spray.

After school, Garnet was drafted into the U.S. Army where on one of his deployments, he spent 18 months in Germany. After the army, Garnet joined the Columbus Police Department and retired in 1980 after 20 1/2 years as Sergeant.

During that time, he was recognized as an outstanding law enforcement officer and was a sharpshooter, competing in many competitions. Garnet then moved to the Clearspring area where he owned an operated a grain and hog farm.

He then moved to Bedford and worked for General Motors for 15 years in security. He retired the second time in 1995 where he and Patty moved to Brownstown. Garnet enjoyed reading and listening to bluegrass music.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Patty; daughters, Tenley (C.J.) Foster of Brownstown, Traci (Shaun) O’Connor of Colorado and Tia Horton of Alaska; son, Thomas Buster of South Carolina; grandchildren, Ryan (Amanda) Jones of Brownstown, Natasha Horton and Kacie Horton of Norman, and Dereck (Layna) Foster of Bedford; great-grandchildren, Ashlynn, Haley and Avery; brother, Evan Buster of Columbus and sister, JoAnne Shepherd of Colorado. Garnet is also survived by his Uncle Jack (Phyllis) Garland of Ohio.

Garnet was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Phillip Buster and a sister Shirley Harris.

No services are planned and cremation has been chosen. The family requests that any memorials be made at the funeral home to support FOP Lodge #108 Cops and Kids.
