Mrs. Carolyn Loretta Witherspoon, 79, of Seymour, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at home surrounded by family. She was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to the late Carl K. and Elaine E. (Cain) Hargraves Sr.

Funeral services will be conducted by Voss & Sons Funeral Service at First Presbyterian Church (301 N. Walnut St., Seymour) on Saturday, March 30 at 10:30 am with Rev. Daniel Watson officiating. A private graveside service will be held.

Family and friends may call at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service.

On July 6, 1968, she married Virgil D. Witherspoon; he preceded her in death on April 26, 1994. Mrs. Witherspoon attended Winston-Salem University and Fayetteville Teachers College. She taught at Madison State Hospital Physical Education Department. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Carolyn had been employed by Lutheran Community Home for more than 24 years. She was the Program Director for Independent Residents for more than 10 years. Mrs. Witherspoon was a member of Fidelity Chapter #30, OES, Sunday school teacher, Deacon and a member of the nominating committee. She volunteered her time for many community activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Carl K. Hargraves Jr.
