Hazel Marie (Tompkins) Toppe, 81, of Brownstown died at 1:37 p.m. March 20, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. She had been ill for 1 year.
She attended Vallonia Christian Church. Hazel was a retired Cashier from Wal-Mart where she worked for over 20 years. She had also been a cashier for Marianne’s Restaurant in Scottsburg and a cook at Johnny’s Cafe in Crothersville. Hazel enjoyed cooking, quilting, shopping & reading.
She was born on October 17, 1937 in Salem, IN to the late Hugh Tompkins & Marguerite Wingler Tompkins. Survivors include her 2 daughters, Debbie (Kenny) Lewis of Austin and Eileen Henson of Franklin, TN; a brother, Buddy Tompkins of Columbus; 3 sisters, Doris Tincher of Colorado, Mabel Farris of Florida, & Nellie Ford of Tennessee. Other survivors include grandchildren, Kristen (Jon) Conrad, Michael Howell, Gary (Meghan) Howell, Robbie Waggoner, Jennifer Smith, Josh (Marcia) Spivey, Montana & Destiny Howell; great grandchildren, Courtney (Hank) Deckard, Matthew Conrad, Kailynn Spivey, Emma Smith, Oliver Huttsell, Scarlett Waggoner, Zach, Nick, Caitlyn, Sophie, Bella & Chandler Howell; one great grandchild, Beau Deckard.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Rick Spivey, and 7 sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 23rd at 12:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia. Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time. Burial take place at the Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Memorial contributions may be given to Johnson Funeral Home.
