LEBANON, IN

Ruth E. (Rueter) Christopher, 81, of Lebanon, IN; formerly of Seymour, IN; passed away at 10:40am on March 13, 2019. She was born December 10, 1937 in Seymour, IN to Edward and Laura (Herkamp) Rueter. Ruth was baptized in Immanuel Lutheran Church on December 26, 1937 and was confirmed there on March 18, 1951 with her confirmation verse taken from Psalm 27:1.

On June 25, 1961, she married her one true love, Harold William Christopher, who preceded her in death on May 29, 1992. She was a very dedicated and loving Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. While living in Seymour, she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, which she loved. At the church, she volunteered with the Orphan Grain Train, Braille and private prayer chain. As a young adult, she worked at Schneck Memorial Hospital. She was a housewife and later worked as a seamstress for the Excello Shirt Factory, babysat for families, and worked for Home Health Care in the community. She worked in the bakery department at Jay C Store in Seymour and later for Onkyo in Walesboro, IN.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters-in-law David (Ruth Goecker) Rueter Madison, IN; Paul (Janet) Rueter Seymour, IN; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her 4 children, Carol (Rev. Ken) Bunge Lufkin, TX; Roger (Wendy) Christopher Boise, ID; Joseph (Sue) Christopher Katy, TX; and Susan (Douglas) Hodgdon Lebanon, IN. Also, her 8 grandchildren Joshua Christopher, Kelton Christopher, Christina Bunge, Christopher (Keah) Bunge, Rachel Christopher, Tara Christopher and Jared Christopher. 4 great-grandchildren Emmalynn Bunge, Jaelynn Bunge, Christopher Bunge Junior, and Grayson Bunge along with her extended family.

Over the years she loved gardening, doing puzzles, crafts and walking her dogs. She had a great love for animals, especially dogs, and she passed that love of dogs on to her children and grandchildren. She had a lifelong love for animals which grew stronger as she got older. She loved basketball and bowling. She received medals in both sports over the last few years at the Boone Co. Senior Olympics.

Visitation for Ruth will be at Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour, IN on Sunday March 17th, 2019 from 2 PM to 6 PM. The service of Christian Burial will be on Monday, March 18th at 11 AM with visitation starting at 10 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, IN. Pastor Ralph Blomenberg will be officiating.
