Brownstown Central High School senior D.J. Caseñas performed at the Indiana State School Music Association State Vocal Contest on Saturday at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis.
She performed a vocal solo and received a gold medal and placed one point from a perfect score.
In order to perform at the state contest, students competed at the district contest in January at Floyd Central High School and placed with a gold medal in Division I.
Jan Willey, a retired vocal director, was the accompanist for Caseñas. Stephanie Brock is the choral director at Brownstown Central High School.
Caseñas is a member of the advanced choir and a cast member of the upcoming school musical "The Little Mermaid."
